Correcting the Colour Dipole Cascade with Fixed
Order Matrix Elements in Deep Inelastic
Scattering
Master of Science thesis
Abstract
For describing the multi-hadronic final state in deep
inelastic scattering, there are mainly two different
approaches: fixed order matrix elements and parton showers.
Fixed order matrix elements can account for a few widely
separated jets, whereas parton showers give a good
description of inter- and intrajet structure. Thus the two
approaches complement each other in different regions of
phase space, so it seems beneficial to use both. In this
thesis an algorithm to combine fixed order matrix elements
with the colour dipole cascade - the parton shower
algorithm implemented in Ariadne - is modified for deep
inelastic scattering and tested.
